Charles (my real name), Chuck, and Chas – All Present and Accounted For

This week’s Keepin’ It Real as broadcast Fridays on Alabama Public Radio. —– An icicle hangs from the roof of my house. I’m looking at it but still can’t quite believe it. Icicles are very rare here. Usually reserved for the freezer door that was left open overnight. A winter storm blew through and Mobile, Alabama is doing what it usually does when it gets below average cold – we’re freaking out. School is cancelled, quote, “out of an abundance of caution” for the kids. There’s no rebuttal to that phrase. It can’t be argued. Right now, my kids are… Read More

Changing your mindset to effectively manage millennials

Posted On January 13, 2024

Many of the great leaders of the past — Henry Ford, Jack Welch of General Electric, Tom Watson of IBM, to name a few – essentially told their employees: Follow me and do as I say if you want to survive and thrive. Leading today’s generation of employees may not be so straight-forward. In fact, the great leaders of the past may have had a difficult time leading the workforces of today. Our guest in the latest episode of “What’s Working with Cam Marston” was Dr. Kevin McGarry, who did his doctoral research on becoming more effective leaders for the… Read More

Interview with BAI – My prediction for the future of financial professionals

Posted On March 16, 2020

Rising anxiety rates in youth today and the corresponding rise in worry by their parents will drive financial professionals to begin doing very different things within the next ten years or so. Data shows that today’s youth struggles to find happiness more than any generation in the past. One of the largest reasons is their ubiquitous dependence on social media. In this podcast with BAI, I discuss the data, what it predicts, and how financial professionals – due to their unique and intimate relationship with clients – have the opportunity to help clients and become both relevant and important to… Read More

Posted On February 12, 2020

What will the workplace of the future look like? To answer that, perhaps we should look at the trends that have shaped the workplace of today. Knowing your customers is important to every business — and that goes double for casinos

Posted On February 6, 2020

Most casinos have similar characteristics. They’re relatively dark, with few or no windows – nothing to distract the paying customers from the lights of the slot machines or the cards on the tables. They’re owned by large companies that run casinos in multiple markets. And they’re typically fairly secretive about their clientele. The Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort in D’Iberville, Mississippi, couldn’t be much more different, however. In its fifth year of operation, it’s a family-owned business operated by a family that is new to the gaming industry. Its floors are flooded with natural light. And its CEO isn’t bashful about… Read More

Our guest in the latest episode of “What’s Working with Cam Marston” can attest to that. As Vice President of Operations for AEG Presents Gulf Coast and Winter Circle Productions, Reeves Price is in charge of managing the Hangout Festival, from ticket sales to booking to hiring… Read More

Want to succeed in sales? Listen to a coach

Posted On December 16, 2019

We’ve all heard the saying: “Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach.” But is it true? And, more specifically, is it true about those who teach how to do sales? There is a healthy amount of skepticism about the effectiveness of sales coaches, but in a recent episode of “What’s Working with Cam Marston,” we talked with one with a track record of success that shows teachers know their stuff. Jeff Brinson, a professional sales coach with Southwestern Consulting, says anyone can do sales – and, in reality, we all already do. “Everybody in the world is a salesperson,”… Read More

Drs Michael Chambers and Andrew Byrd know the questions to ask, the people to talk to, and the processes to explore to get your business idea or invention started. They work with individuals and companies that are trying to break through and offer coaching, feedback, and introductions.
