As Millennials enter the work force in large numbers, the perception has been that they are demanding or “entitled” as a group. In spite of the complaints of older generations of managers and executives along these lines, many substantial firms are making adjustments to accommodate the youngest generation in the workforce, according to an analysis by the Wall Street Journal this week. Baby Boomers give the most positive online ratings, Gen Xers the most negative ones, and Millennials fall in the middle, according to a Bazaarvoice study of 6 million online opinions. A majority of all generations are now online and all participate in reviewing and rating products on web sites. In fact, 82% of all online reviews and ratings are positive, according to the study.   Baby Boomers now make up the largest group of online reviewers at 45%. Millennials expect technology to do just about everything for them. They even expect it to take the place of cash in the near future, according to a Visa survey.  80% of Millennials already shop online. Appeals to nostalgia are known to be effective with Baby Boomers, particularly in marketing campaigns that evoke memories of the Boomers’ “flower power” youth of the 60s and 70s. Now General Mills has launched a campaign aimed at Boomers that features Cheech and Chong, counterculture heroes, and their “magic” brownies. Have you ever noticed a blinking or dancing ad to the side of the web page you were reading and wondered, “Who clicks on that?” Now we have an answer, at least a generational one. Millennials make up the most diverse, and largest, generation in the United States and now the Census and recent studies show that more Millennials are Hispanic or Latino than any other generation and that the majority of Millennial Hispanics were born in the USA.
